ABOUT THIS SERVICE

Our Citizenship Services

British Citizenship means that you can live in the UK freely without being required to follow any immigration rules. Individuals with UK Citizenship will be able to have a UK passport and live under the same rules as those born in the UK.

Holding Citizenship status can offer you:

Live in the UK permanently.

The right to work with no permits or restrictions.

Free medical care and access to state benefits.

Children and dependents obtain the advantages of your citizenship.

Travel freely without losing your status in the UK.

Right to vote in the UK and stand in elections.

When applying for naturalisation, I debated whether I should seek legal help or just go through the process myself. I ended up going to Westkin and could not have been happier with the service. My lawyer was always available when I called, responsive, and more than anything else – reassuring. What could have very easily been a confusing and worrying process became relatively simple and Westkin was there at every step. I was a citizen in under six months and the whole process was a breeze.

Detailed information about our Citizenship service

Applications for British Citizenship must be made online through the UK government website. To apply, you must be eligible through Citizenship by birth or descent, through marriage, or through the 5 year route (5 years or more spent living in the UK).

Some documentation is needed to support your Citizenship application. This includes:

  • A passport, birth certificate or valid travel document to prove your identity and permanent residence status.
  • Proof that you hold Indefinite Leave to Remain or EU Settled Status, for example your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP).
  • Evidence of your previous immigration status and your right to remain in the UK.
  • Proof of English language and knowledge of life in the UK.
  • Evidence of lawful residential presence in the UK.
  • Details of any periods of absence spent outside the UK.
  • Evidence of meeting the Good Character requirement.

British Citizenship applications must be made online, and it is often a long and time-consuming process. It is recommended that you seek assistance from a professional when applying.

British Citizenship can be made if you have been living in the UK for at least 5 years, with no longer than 450 total days spent the UK. You must also have:

  • Held Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) in the UK for at least 12 months.
  • Passed the life in the UK test.
  • Met the English language requirements.
  • Demonstrated that you meet the Good Character requirement. This means you must not hold a recent criminal record.

You may be eligible for Citizenship without having lived in the UK for 5 years. Some other common qualifiers for British Citizenship include:

  • Citizenship by birth or descent – you were born in the UK, or are the child of at least one parent who is a British citizen, or settled person.
  • Citizenship by marriage – you can apply for citizenship as the partner of a UK Citizen if you spent the last 3 years in the UK as a settled person.

We understand that applying for British Citizenship is a big step for many people coming to the end of their UK immigration journey. It can be a worrying process, but we can make it easier for you. An example would be children who are born in the United Kingdom and have not left the country for the 1st 10 years of their life. Another example would be those who qualify thanks to historic ties with a commonwealth country.
You can seek reconsideration. What if my reconsideration application is not successful? Westkin has experience in challenging these decisions by way of judicial review and have had success in this area.
