We genuinely believe we can assist anyone with legal issues – please call us for a no obligation chat about your case.

The legal market

It may be worth explaining how the legal market in immigration services works and to explain the difference between the different descriptions you may have heard.

There are 3 bodies that regulated immigration lawyers in the UK.

OISC

The first is called the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner (known as OISC). Lawyers who are regulated by OISC are known as Immigration Lawyers or Immigration Advisors. They might also be known as Legal Advisors. OISC is a government bdoy that ensures that only those firms and advisers within those firms who have sufficient knowledge and administative procedures in place can advise and represent those immigration clients who approach it.

OISC advisors have a couple of interesting features over immigration solicitors (the next catagory of persons). Firstly, every immigration lawyer within an OISC law firm must have qualifications to advise in immigration law and have passed examinations. This applies to every individual.

Immigration Solicitors

The second body of advisers is immigration solicitors. These are lawyers regulated by the SRA, which stands for Solicitor’s Regulatory Authourity. Immigration have an advantage over OISC firms in that they can undertake Judicial Review work. They also have a disadvantage in that they can use unqualified persons to undertake cases under the supervision of a Solicitor.

Immigration Barristers

The third body of advisors are Immigration Barristers. They normally take on cases through OISC advisors and solicitors. With direct access barristers can advise directly members of the public, but they are not allowed to employ other lawyers nor are they allowed to send letters or applications to the UKBA directly from themselves.

As can be seen there are a wide variety of legal advisors. Our thoughts, make sure you speak thoroughly to the person in question and ensure that you are confident that they care enough about your case to work hard on it.

Our team of expert lawyers and solicitors and Westkin are on hand to help you with your case, no matter how complex. Our team have worked across a wealth of cases, from simple and straight forward application processes, to more complicated claims. We are on hand to assist you with your needs, whatever those may be. We make a promise to our clients that we will offer them with a fast, honest and reliable service and we endeavour to offer this in all that we do. If you are interested in discussing your immigration queries with a member of our team, please do not hesitate to get in touch and we will be happy to assist you.
